“Because You’re A BROWN”
Unpublished Manuscript By:
Fern Brown Yerby - Daughter
August 1979
(56 years after his August 1923 wagon accident)
I’ll tell you my sons and my daughters
Little brother and sister too.
I’ll tell you my nieces and nephews
Why you’re naturally honest and true.
I’ll tell you so you’ll never wonder
Why you have that mischievous grin,
Why folks say you’re easy going,
Why there’s a dimple in your chin.
I’ll tell you why it doesn’t matter,
Should the Lord ask you part or all.
Why you never stop to question
Before accepting the call.
I’ll tell you why I am so certain,
No matter how hard the test.
Though you may stumble or falter,
You’ll finish ahead of the rest.
The answer is very simple.
It’s all because you’re a Brown.
And if you honor your birthright
You’ll earn a celestial crown.
