Gertrude Brown Gale
Gertrude was the youngest child in her family. She was named for her Grandmother, Gertrude Reynolds, her mother’s mother. She loved to sing and, like all the Browns, loved to dance. She had a talent for dramatics and won 1st prize for the best individual performance at the high school competition held at New Mexico Western University.
After graduating from high school, she married Ivyl Lavar Gale. They eventually bought a farm in Franklin, Arizona, and lived there until Ivyl became employed with Salt River Project and they moved to Mesa, Arizona. A short time later they moved to Chandler where Ivyl had the responsibility of delivering irrigation water to all of the farmers in the Salt River water district area in Chandler. They loved living in Chandler and lived there the rest of their lives.
On May 11, 1961, Gertrude, Ivyl, and their children went to the Mesa Temple and were sealed for time & eternity. Gertrude was never happier than she was that day.
They have 4 children, Orvil Lavar (Pete), Howard Taylor, Cherri Lynn, & Russell Lee. Pete became ill with Nephritis, an incurable (at that time) kidney disease and passed away on the 28th of May, 1961 at the age of 22. It was a sad time for the family and Pete was missed so very much. Mother’s courage and strong faith helped the family to gain an eternal perspective to life and to go on.
Gertrude served in many positions in the church: Primary teacher, visiting teacher, Relief Society teacher, and served on the Stake Relief Society board for 9 years. She also served as the ward Relief Society and Primary president. She loved all of her callings and did her best to serve.
She had many, many friends—some that were much younger than herself, as well as those her age and older.
She taught her children the gospel and lived it to the fullest, never faltering in her faith.
