Rita Brown Nielsen
I was born the youngest child of Elmina Mortensen and Floyd Alonzo Brown in Virden, New Mexico on April 20, 1943. My siblings were Dewaine, Steve, Cameron, Ferneth, Colleen, Elmina, and Dewitt. Elmina and Dewitt were deceased when I was born. I was raised in Farmington, New Mexico, on a small farm. Both of my parents passed away at a young age of 43 and 45. We all went to live in Virden with relatives. Colleen and I went to live with my aunt, Dorothy Jones and her husband.
I went to live with Dewaine (my brother) and Judy when I was 13. I attended college in Cedar City and fulfilled a mission to England in the North British Mission. I attended BYU when I returned home.
I am married to Keith Nielsen, who was raised in Pleasant Grove, UT. Our family consists of 6 children- Jaron, Clark, Charice, Rochelle, Angela, and Nicole and 22 grandchildren. There are two sets of boy girl twins in our family one set is from Clark and the other set is from Angela. Jaron is married to Jan Poulsen. Clark is married to Jill Smith. Charice is married to Clay Seagle. Rochelle is married to Heber Anderson. Angela is married to Anthony Monson. Nicole is married to Daryl Anderson. Rochelle, Angela, and Nicole live Utah. Clark and Charice live in California and Jaron lives in Nevada. They are all doing well and we are so proud of them and love them dearly.
Our grandchildren are Seth, Tanner, Meagan, Emily, Cade (Jaron and Jan’s kids) Conner, Aylish, Cayden (Clark and Jill’s kids) Addison, Abigail, Kevin (Charice and Clay’s kids) Logan, Carter, Luke (Rochelle and Heber’s kids) Chloe, Tate, Milo (Angela and Anthony’s kids) Parker, Emma, Bella, Mia (Nicole and Daryl’s).
The grandchildren are such a joy. We are retired and enjoy going to AZ in the winter where it is warm. When I was younger I remember going to see Grandma Theresa Brown when she was in a rest home. As I walked in she said “Mina”. Her face would just light up. She thought I was my mother because I look a lot like her. When she realized I wasn’t her she became afraid and asked me to leave. Growing up I was especially fond of Grandma Brown’s two daughters, my aunts, Aunt Gertrude and Aunt Fern. They were so loving and warm.
I am so blessed in my dear husband; he is a wonderful husband and Grandpa. The grandchildren adore him and his teasing sense of humor. I enjoy gardening, dancing and reading.
