Thomas Dean Brown
Diane Konold & Tom Brown (1981)
Tom grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada the third child of eight children. Growing up he loved "outdoorsy" stuff and did well at church volleyball (area champions three times and all-star twice) and high jump in track his last year in high school. He’s loved to sing from a young age and didn't miss a youth dance. Before serving as a missionary in the Canada Alberta Mission from 1976-1978, he attended BYU. After his mission he returned to BYU and worked in the dorms and at the MTC. In 1979 he toured with the BYU Folk Dancers behind the iron curtain in Eastern Europe and Russia. Married Diane Konold in 1981 and they’ve had seven children, all love to dance. He "finally" graduated from BYU with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences Education in 1986. He taught and coached for ten years at Lincoln County High School in Panaca, Nevada, during which time he earned a Master’s Degree in Education from Utah State University. He tried grant writing in Washington, D.C. for only five months and then moved back to Nevada, where he has taught for the last 15 years at Pahrump Valley High School. Loves all things "Scouting" and is an avid hiker, rock climber, and cyclist. He currently lives in Pahrump, Nevada, with his wife Diane and is serving as the Bishop of the Shadow Mountain Ward, of the Las Vegas, Nevada South Stake.
Diane grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada, the first of eight children. She enjoyed her childhood which was filled with music and imagination, family outings and games, and most importantly the Gospel. She started taking piano lessons when she was eight and loved being in school and church productions. She served for many years as a Sunday School and Primary Chorister. In Junior High and High School she excelled in theater arts and won many drama competitions. During her last year in High School she worked for Skaggs, a drug store chain, doing newspaper ads and found she had an artistic eye. Her love and knowledge of the gospel grew and she gained a testimony that has been an anchor to her soul. In 1981 she married Tom Brown and began an eternal family which included two little girls who did not live long and died quite unexpectedly, but she knows that she will hold them again in her arms. Her other five children, their spouses, and their children are a true joy to her and she looks forward to those who will yet come into the family fold.
Summer is married to Ben Lewis and they have two daughters, Eleanor Lee Lewis and Clara Deon Lewis. Life at their house is a musical! Summer learned to sew, dance, and act at an early age from her mother and father; she graduated from BYU in Theater Education. She served as a missionary in the Alaska Anchorage Mission where she spent some time in a Spanish Branch and learned the Spanish language. She traveled to Europe before her marriage. She has always had a penchant for writing and literature. Ben served as a missionary in the Japan Fukuoka Mission. He works for the Department of Defense on the Yokosuka Naval Base where he teaches High School math. They love Living in Japan!
Daniel did all things sports in Panaca and Pahrump before serving as missionary in the Paraguay Asunción North Mission where he learned to speak not only Spanish, but Guarani. He married Megan Rohner, our collegiate swimmer, who served as a missionary in the Spain Madrid Mission. She graduated from UNLV in Nutrition. They both worked for Boys Town Nevada until they moved to Ely, Nevada where Daniel works as a corrections officer for the Nevada Department of Corrections at the Ely State Prison. They’re adopting Amanda, with Miriam, Jacob, and Preston rounding out their family.
Sierra died of SIDS while living in Orem, Utah during Tom’s last year of college.
Jonathan is the tallest at 6' 5" and the “scientist” of the group. He served as a missionary in the California Roseville Mission. Attended BYU-I where he met and married Kimberli Lingard. Moved to University Place, Washington where Kim is finishing her Doctorate in Physical Therapy, and Jon has joined the Washington State Army National Guard. He’s been trained as a Medical Lab Technician. Works at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tacoma and was accepted into the University of Utah’s Emergency Medicine Management Program.
Andrew is a tow-headed social butterfly. Rather athletic in high school he liked to play football and basketball. His innate social skills and genuine love for people has equipped him well for his chosen career. He works for The Wynn Hotel as a Front Desk Representative while going to college to earn a degree in Hotel Management.
Philip leans toward the cerebral, especially with his humor. Loves music and has taught himself to play the guitar. Enjoys the outdoors and is an avid rock climber. Attended BYU-I before he was called to serve as a missionary in the Colorado Denver South Mission.
Cheyenne died of SIDS while living in Panaca, Nevada, and was buried by her sister, Sierra, in Panguitch, Utah.
